The Webster Dictionary defines fear as being Function: an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by expectation or awareness of danger b : an instance of fear or a state marked by fear. 2 : concern about what may happen : WORRY. Synonyms: FEAR, DREAD, ALARM, FRIGHT, mean painful emotion experienced in the presence or expectation of danger.
I know all of us at some time or another has experienced this very real emotion. Whether it is from natural or emotional states it is a very real thing. I know only through the power of the Lord Jesus Christ may we overcome this. We study in His word, to learn how to do so. One of my most favorite bible verses on fear is actually a chapter. Psalm 91: ( God is a refuge and a fortress.)
(1)He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (2)I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. (3)Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. (4)He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. (5)Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; (6)Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. (7)A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. (8)Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. (9)Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation; (10) There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. (11)For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. (12)They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. (13)Thou shalt tread upon the lion and the adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. (14)Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. (15)He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will deliver him, and honor him. (16)With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.
I have read this chapter to myself and my children, nieces, and nephews many times. I believe what it says is truth. God's word can not lie. It is impossible.
Everyone feels afraid at some point -- whether it's a gnawing, anxious feeling or a paralyzing phobia. Any change, even positive changes like marriage or a promotion, can prompt feelings of fear. The Bible offers powerful alternatives to those voices, reminding readers repeatedly, "Do not be afraid."
Here are a few of my favorites.
(Ps.23:4; Is.41:13; Ex.14:13; Deut.31:6; 2Tim.1:7; Ps.27:1; Luke1:30; Luke2:10; Heb.13:6; John 14:27) I myself have been paralyzed by fear often at different seasons in my life. It is not fun. However, we have a Super God that Loves us past all fears. " He is bigger and badder than any boogie man, or the monsters on tv." I use to sing this little song to my children when they were small. Or we would pray Psalm 91, and praise Jesus through the scary thoughts. We would clap our hands, stomp our feet, and shout Jesus, and that would scare everything into submission to Jesus the Lord of all! All things must bow to the name of Jesus Hallelujah! Just know you are kept, greatly adored, and highly favored, and beloved, and He has mighty plans for you. Love each of you.
