Don’t treat people like loose change……
What do I mean by this you ask? Well just like we throw our loose change carelessly into our purse or to the side of the console or carelessly lose it and do not keep up with it because it is not valued nor important to us we can also treat others this way. We do not make others a priority just like our loose change is irrelevant so are they.
Our lives have become self oriented. Everywhere we look we see people on their phones. Notice it next time you are in a waiting room at the doctor's office, or in line waiting to check out at the supermarket. Do we even really notice others anymore? Do we even care actually about what is going on with anyone other than ourselves? Have we really become so self involved that we do not care what is going on with anyone other than ourselves and what affects us only?
The Bible tells us to love others as Christ loved us and gave his life for us. We are told that of all the commandments in the Bible they may be summarized into two main commands. First being Mark 12: 30-31 “ …and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all of your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength,” the second being , “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”There is no other commandment greater than these. (Paraphrased RSV)
Whatever happened to caring about others? When was the last time you looked up from yourself and your busy life and noticed others and what is going on with them? There are alot of hurting people in this world and they are desperate for love, compassion, understanding, and a friend. A smile goes a long way and a conversation could be the difference between life and death for that person. We all have pain and we are all struggling at some time or another. No one has it all together and we need one another. Instead of mindlessly rushing through our day and hurrying to our next task to get through the day, why don’t we slow down and listen to the Spirit of God lead guide and direct us into seeing the needs of others? Instead of saying we are going to pray for others and forgetting to do so let us stop in the moment and pray. Yes we all have good intentions but good intentions never moved mountains ever. We need to get back to the basics. Slow down , enjoy the moment, count our blessings and keep others at the forefront of our minds. If we allow the Spirit to lead we will be amazed at what we may do.
God bless each of you and know I am preaching to myself as well. Love to each of you in Jesus Christ our LORD and Savior. If you do not know Him may you find Him today and make Him your personal Lord and Savior. We are not promised tomorrow or the next hour for this matter.
