The miraculous adventures of Nicky

What can I say about this kid? He is such an amazing human being. He has taught all of us so much over his short 18 years upon this earth. He was born different than his siblings. He did not barely cry. He was special from the very beginning. As he grew, we observed how different he was. I myself was in total denial of course. He was different and had odd tendencies. He could not say many words and walked later in life when he was around 2ish. When I took him to be evaluated, we discovered he had Oppositional Defiance Disorder along with a Developmental Delay. The geneticist from UK and the neurologist never could arrive at a conclusive diagnosis. So, like many children he was categorized in with the millions of others under Multiple Congenial Disorder. He continued to grow and as he got older, we experienced many setbacks in his education. We have had to fight for him since he was first born. He is highly observant and very detailed. I know a lot of individuals may have autistic tendencies. He had many. He also had sensory overload. We used to have to have earphones for him at school to help him cope with the loud noises. He was petted to say the least. Not only did I pet him but the entire family, especially my Mom, his Nana, and my aunt, his Mama Berthy, as he called her. And most definitely my Dad and Mamaw Sheliah as well. When he was around the age of 2, he started having major asthma. He overcame that with prayer and faith. Later when he turned 6, he started having problems with his ears and infections that seemingly would not go away. Either they went away but kept coming back or we could not seem to get ahold of the infection to get it to leave. His immunity was low. This continued for a few years. We had tubes placed and that helped a lot. However, when he turned 71/2, he started having major headaches. He would cry with them. We did not know what was wrong and we tried everything. His primary pediatrician ran numerous tests, but no results were made. When he turned 8 it worsened to the point, he could not maintain a normal life. He would stay awake at night and could not sleep or breathe good. He had a knot raised up on the left side of his neck and it kept growing. We were very concerned and ran him to numerous doctors and were desperate for answers. Exhausted from the many tests and no answers we rushed to UK in Lexington ER, and they had us two appointments with the UK team, one being an Oncologist, the other an ENT. May of 2011 Nicholas was diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The knot that was growing on the left side of his neck turned out to be a mass of lymph nodes that was the secondary tumor sight for the cancer. The first was on the back of his pharynx and preventing him from breathing well. I was needless to say breathless and speechless when finding out. I was so out of my body from fear and anxiety that I had not realized that we were in an Oncology office and surrounded by Cancer patients. It did not even dawn on me until the DR’s both agreed on the diagnosis. My Mother (Stepmom) went with me and took Nick to the car so he would not see me breakdown. The Dr's explained to me the prognosis, diagnosis, procedures, etc. I was so devastated. The only thing that kept me sane was Jesus. We had so many people praying for us around the world. When you go through something to this severity it is amazing how much love you receive. I can not begin to thank everyone for their love their prayers their support and sharing their hope and faith. I had close friends do fund raisers for us. My niece started a FB Page to support Nicholas. So many prayers went up for us and I am eternally grateful for each and everyone. People sent him gifts and cards to cheer him up. His teachers and school did a fund raiser for him as well. October of the same year after the extensive radiation and chemotherapy treatments we were told he was cancer free! Not in remission but CANCER FREE! That is a God thing! That is all God! All praise to Him forevermore! Nothing is impossible to him! Since this experience Nicky has grown and become a young man. He is 18 and it has been 10 years he was told he was cancer free come October! We were told they could not spare his pituitary gland and he would never grow more, and he would not go through puberty. Guess what they are wrong and were wrong. He has a little mustache, and he is growing and has grown and is right smack down in the middle of puberty! Most parents don’t celebrate this, but I sure do! He wasn’t supposed to be able to go through puberty, but GOD SAID HE’S MINE AND IT’S MY WILL NOT THE LIE OF THE ENEMY! Also, he is another person now. He used to hate loud noises and cry with overstimulation, but GOD changes lives! He has lead praise and worship at church!!! He is an amazing social butterfly now that rarely sees strangers just like his Grandpa Ed, just like his Mama. He is a vessel for God. He hears God’s voice plainly. He shares what God has done for him in healing him. What an amazing God we serve. Jesus is the Healer, the Savior, our Lord, our all and all. So have faith that the impossible is possible because with Jesus nothing is impossible if we but believe and have faith. Speak life, and speak hope, quote those scriptures and surround yourself with the truth of God and his word.

Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

Matthew 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
