This is a picture of a piece my Father wrote for the newspaper in response of the restoration of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. He was so moved by the Spirit he penned these beautiful words. He possessed a passion for the Word of God and He treasured his time in the word and guarded it well. He was always a busy man tending to the flock and ministering to the ill and shut ins. He visited people and had personal relationships with them. He truly knew them on a personal level, was very caring of them, and shown great attention to the details of their lives. He loved the church. He truly loved the people of God. He found a belonging with them. He gave his whole heart to the church. He studying the word and became a living example of God's great love. He reached many through God's word through his obedience to preaching the word. He was a man of honor, integrity, love, and hope. He had faith in his fellow man and believed in the best of them. He believed in second chances and helped the hurting. He gave effortlessly to the needy and thrived on helping the less fortunate. He mirrored a man of respect and honor and was a role model for the younger generation. He was an example of God's grace. God changed him from the inside out. He was converted by the calling of the spirit when he was younger careless and cursing. It embarrassed him and made him sore afraid. He was awestruck that God spoke to him. He no longer chose the lifestyle of the young rebellious but chose God's path. He chose to fully give himself to the church. He found great peace and acceptance in the house of the Lord that he did not find anywhere else. He feasted on the word each day. He did not miss talking with God. He reverenced God in the highest. He taught his daughters of the majesty and kingship of God Almighty and His only begotten Son that died for the sins of the world. He taught us right from wrong, he taught us to be giving, forgiving, loving, and hopeful of a better tomorrow. He taught us to be conservative not wasteful and how to be a hard worker. He taught us how to pray and how to give our all to the work of the Lord. Growing up we did not understand these things but with time and age we see things so clear. He carried great sadness his entire life. This sadness was never to be eradicated but became very much a part of who he was. This great sadness was from not knowing his Mother because she died when he was but a baby. He loved his brothers and sisters in Christ and their families. He loved his siblings and their families as well. He adored and loved his own children and their precious family. God gave us the greatest gift of our lifetime through the great love of our Father and Grandfather. This gift was only second to Christ Jesus of course. He taught us to love the Lord and that was his legacy of love that he left wherever he went. I thank God for my Father that loved me so much more than I ever can fathom. I am only beginning to see this great love through my children and grandchildren. I thank God for his unconditional love towards us and others. I miss him so much and I am so happy he finally received his desire to see his Mother in heaven the happy day of reunion when he graduated this life into the next upon those glorious heavenly shores. He lived his entire life desiring heaven and with his last breath he began a new eternal life with his precious Lord and Savior. I love you Daddy and will forever be your babygirl. Until we meet again my love always hugs and kisses. Anita Gaye
